ABSTRACT:

Objective: To determine the accuracy of hippocampal quantitative (volumetric) assessment in diagnosing hippocampal atrophy in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy by comparing it with qualitative (visual) assessment on MRI. Materials and Methods: Setting: Department of Radiology, Allied Hospital, Faisalabad. Duration: Minimum 6 months after the approval of my synopsis. Study Design: Cross sectional. Conclusion: We can conclude that MRI based hippocampal volumetric assessment is a valuable tool for the detection of hippocampal atrophy in patients with refractory temporal lobe epilepsy who are candidates for surgery avoiding unnecessary supplementary tests including PET, SPECT & invasive EEG. Keywords: Temporal lobe epilepsy, hippocampal volumetric assessment, hippocampal sclerosis.
