Hyperglycemia usually causes a multifactorial disorder called as Diabetes. Diabetes, poor control and hypomagnesemia are closely associated. Insulin receptor is affected by magnesium levels. In patients of diabetes, hypomagnesemia is involved in resistance of insulin through the interference of insulin receptor integration. Inactive insulin receptor phosphorylation is responsible for this. Hypomagnesemia is added to resistance of insulin in the cells. Hypomagnesaemia has been associated significantly with the development and aggravation of the severity of type 2 as well as type 1 diabetes. Its implications in the severity of the disorder can be drastically reduced by administration of magnesium fortified diets to diabetic patients. Furthermore, future researches should further probe into the scope of hazardous implications of hypomagnesaemia in diabetics in order to alleviate the complications.
