STUDY TO KNOW THE DIABETES MELLITUS TYPE II PREVALENCE IN CIRRHOSIS PATIENTS RELATED WITH CHRONIC HEPATITIS C VIRUS INFECTION

Abstract :

Objective: To evaluate the type 2 diabetes mellitus frequency in patients with cirrhosis related with chronic HCV infection. Study design: A descriptive study (case series). Place and Duration of the Study: In the Medical Unit II of Services Hospital Lahore for one year duration from December 2017 to December 2018. Methods: Eighty-three (83) patients were selected for the study after meeting clinical features, detailed history, and detailed clinical examination of cirrhosis. Relevant research including liver function tests, abdominal ultrasound and glycemic levels were checked. Results: Eighty-three (83) cirrhosis patients were selected for the analysis. Of the 83 patients, 30 (30) had diabetes mellitus type 2 in almost 36% of the patients. Diabetes mellitus type I prevalence was higher in the 41-60 age group. More precisely, we found that patients who had cirrhosis for more than 4 years were more likely to be diabetic. Conclusion: We found higher type 2 diabetes mellitus in cirrhosis patients associated with chronic HCV infection in our patient group.
