Objective: To determine the frequency of atrial fibrillation in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Patients and Methods:A total of fifty patients with chronic obstructive lung disease were included in this study. The criterion for the selection of the patients for the study was those patients diagnosed case of COPD. The exclusive criteria were known asthmatic patients and the case of restrictive lung diseases; history of ischemic heart disease, already on cardiac medications, patients with hyperthyroidism whereas the frequency / percentages (%) and means ±SD computed for study variables. Results:During six-month study period total fifty patients had COPD for ≥3-year duration were explored and study. The mean ± SD for age (yrs) of population was 59.52±7.81 respectively. Regarding gender,male 32 (64%) and female 18 (36%) individualswhereas the atrial fibrillation was identified in 31(62%) patients of COPD Conclusion:COPD patients had a higher risk for AF among the Pakistani populace. Among COPD patients, hypertension and CHF were distinguished as autonomous hazard factors for new-beginning AF. KeyWords:Atrial fibrillation, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and Arrhythmia.
