Abstract :
The objective of this research is to formulate and develop gastro retentive floating tablets of Pentoxifylline using polymers by effervescent system which will retain the drug up to 12hrs to prepare and evaluate floating tablets of Pentoxifylline using polymers like HPMC, Ethyl Cellulose and Xantham Gum and sodium bicarbonate is used as effervescent component tablets were compressed by direct compression method. The prepared tablets showed acceptable physic chemical characteristics floating characteristics (floating lag time, floating time) drug content and evaluated for in vitro release characteristics for 12hours in 0.1N HCL. Drug compatibility with excipients was checked by FTIR studies. Formulation with prepared with HPMC polymer was retarding the drug release up to 12hrs P3 release 99.83%. From the release kinetics data it was evident that the formulation followed Higuchi release mechanism.
