Abstract :
Introduction and background: Flax (Linum usitatissimum L.), also known as flax or linseed, belongs to the forest family and has been cultivated in many countries for a long time due to its use in medicine and industry. This study aims to collect all available information on the chemical composition of flax as well as its medicinal properties and proven medicinal uses. The keywords “Linum usitatissimum”, “pharmacology” and “phytochemical” and related articles were scanned. Including the pharmacological and phytochemical components of Linum usitatissimum. Findings: According to our research, L .usitatissimum has many properties. Antioxidant, immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiprotozoal, insecticidal, analgesic, antihyperlipidemic, antihyperglycemic, antitumor, wound healing and feticidal activities. There are also many reports on the disease-fighting and healing properties of flax. Flax is said to treat the following ailments: stomach diseases, heart diseases, genitourinary diseases, respiratory diseases and some neurological diseases. The use of flax in medical preparations has also been studied. The focus of the current review is on recent studies on humans and animals as well as flaxseed’s commercial use in a variety of food products as proof of its phytochemical content, pharmacological activity and potential health benefits.
Key words : flaxseed ,phytochemicals content, pharmacological activities , benefits
