Abstract :
Chronic Liver Disease (CLD) is a significant worldwide health burden which includes a variety of diseases such as liver cirrhosis, viral hepatitis, and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD/NAFLD). A multifaceted strategy that includes strict medication adherence, proactive care of crippling consequences, nutritional optimisation, and the mitigation of drug-related issues is needed to optimise patient results. This review examines the clinical evidence on the impact of non-adherence on disease progression, patient-reported quality of life (HRQoL), systemic consequences such as hepatic encephalopathy and pruritus, and the critical significance of structured educational and nutritional interventions. This research provides actionable ways to reduce repeated hospital admissions and enhance survival in ambulatory and hospitalised CLD populations by analysing current pharmacotherapies in conjunction with clinical pharmacist-led monitoring.
Keywords: Chronic liver disease; medication adherence; quality of life; liver cirrhosis; hepatic encephalopathy; drug-related problems; nutritional counseling; pharmacotherapeutic interventions.
