A REVIEW ON FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF HERBAL PAPER SOAP

Abstract :

Herbal paper soap is an innovative, portable, and eco-friendly cleansing product designed to provide convenient hand hygiene while reducing plastic waste. The present study aimed at the formulation and evaluation of herbal paper soap incorporating Neem (Azadirachta indica) and Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis Miller) extracts. Neem is well known for its antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties, making it effective in reducing the growth of pathogenic microorganisms, while Aloe vera possesses moisturizing, soothing, and wound-healing properties that help maintain skin hydration and minimizes irritation. The herbal extracts were incorporated into thin, water-soluble soap sheets that dissolve rapidly upon contact with water, producing sufficient lather for effective cleansing. The formulated herbal paper soap was evaluated for its physical appearance, pH, foam height, disintegration time, and antimicrobial activity. The results indicate that the combination of Neem and Aloe vera produces a stable, skin-friendly, and effective cleansing product suitable for everyday use. Thus, herbal paper soap offers a sustainable and convenient alternative to conventional soaps, combining effective hygiene with the therapeutic benefits of natural herbal ingredients.
