Abstract :

Introduction: Electro surgery is one of the smart and latest advancements. Although the equipment is safe to handle yet several hazards are associated with it. Burns are among the most commonly encountered complications. Therefore, thorough knowledge of the principles of electro surgery, proper handling, usage, monitoring, precautions and management response in case of any accident surely can improve the operational experience for both surgeon and patient. Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out at Services Hospital Lahore during January 2019 to March 2019. 100 nurses working in different departments were randomly selected through the hospital attendance register. Data was collected using a Self-structured questionnaire comprising socio demographic details and contents of the study. Data was analyzed by SPSS version 21. Results: Majority of the nurses possess adequate knowledge regarding the operational use of the electro surgical devices however some of them lacked proper insight in the risks involved in the process such a using on (14%) wet floors and on (27%) tattoos and the difference in their management as compared to conventional burns (34%). Conclusion: The entire perioperative period is influenced by the fears and the consequences associated with electro surgical procedures. Therefore every healthcare professional should possess a thorough knowledge of the operational and scientific principles of electro surgical equipment, not only to increase efficiency but to promote hazard free surgeries.
