Abstract :
Breast cancer is one of the most prevalent malignancies affecting women worldwide, resulting from abnormal cell growth in breast tissue due to a combination of internal factors genetics, hormonal changes and external influences lifestyle, environmental exposure. Risk factors include age, family history, obesity, alcohol consumption, and sedentary behavior. Breast cancer has historical accounts since ancient times however, the discussions around it were always prohibited, a situation that limited the process of early detection and diagnosis. The late 19th century brought about radical mastectomy, where improvements in survival rates resulted but at the cost of disfiguring the women involved. Today, breast cancer is classified into non-invasive and invasive. Public awareness campaigns have been crucial in promoting early detection through regular screenings like mammograms and self-examinations, significantly improving survival rates. Current treatment approaches include surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy. Despite advancements, challenges remain, such as cultural stigma, misinformation, and access to care. Efforts to increase awareness and education focus on risk reduction, emphasizing healthy lifestyle choices and regular screenings. Future strategies will likely involve personalized screening, genomic research, and community engagement to address disparities in breast cancer care. Ultimately, the aim is to enhance public knowledge, promote early detection, and improve access to care, thereby reducing breast cancer incidence and mortality rates.
