Abstract :

Paramedics play a vital role in emergency healthcare, often operating in high-pressure environments where efficiency directly impacts patient outcomes. Despite their critical contributions, numerous barriers inhibit their performance, ranging from organizational and environmental challenges to psychological stressors. This review aims to systematically explore and categorize these barriers, drawing insights from recent studies to understand their implications on paramedics’ efficiency and work experiences. Key findings reveal that staffing shortages, inadequate training, occupational stress, and rigid policy frameworks are among the primary inhibitors of paramedic efficiency. Additionally, geographic and environmental challenges exacerbate response difficulties, particularly in rural or underserved regions. This review highlights the urgent need for organizational reforms, enhanced training programs, policy adjustments, and psychological support systems to address these barriers. By shedding light on these challenges, this study seeks to inform policymakers, healthcare organizations, and researchers about strategies to optimize paramedic efficiency and improve emergency healthcare outcomes.
Keywords: Paramedic efficiency, emergency medical services, organizational barriers, occupational stress, environmental challenges, training gaps, policy inhibitors, psychological resilience, healthcare optimization, systematic review.
