Abstract :
This comprehensive review evaluates the impact of Electronic Prehospital Medical Records (ePMRs) in ambulance services, focusing on their effectiveness in improving prehospital care, response times, data accuracy, and patient outcomes. Over the past decade, ePMRs have emerged as a vital tool for enhancing emergency medical services (EMS) by providing real-time, accessible patient data for healthcare providers. The review synthesizes findings from various studies assessing the implementation, challenges, and benefits of ePMRs across different EMS settings. Key findings suggest that ePMRs significantly improve the accuracy and completeness of medical data, streamline communication between paramedics and hospitals, and potentially reduce response times. However, barriers such as technological infrastructure, data privacy concerns, and the need for ongoing training remain. The review also highlights the critical role of interoperability between ePMRs and hospital systems in ensuring seamless transitions of care. Overall, this review underscores the potential of ePMRs to improve the quality of prehospital care and provides recommendations for future research and policy development in EMS systems worldwide.
