Abstract :
Microsponge-based drug delivery systems represent an innovative approach to enhance the efficacy and safety of pharmaceutical formulations. This study explores the development and evaluation of clobetasol-loaded microsponges incorporated into a hydrogel matrix for topical application in treating dermatological conditions such as psoriasis. The research optimized microsponge formulations using Eudragit S100 and RS100 polymers, investigating key parameters including drug-polymer ratios, particle size distribution, drug entrapment efficiency, and in vitro drug release profiles. The optimized microsponges exhibited improved stability and sustained release characteristics when integrated into the hydrogel, ensuring prolonged drug delivery and minimized local side effects. Accelerated stability studies confirmed the robustness of the microsponges in maintaining physical integrity and drug content over 30 days under various storage conditions. This study underscores the potential of microsponge technology to revolutionize topical drug delivery, offering controlled release and enhanced therapeutic outcomes for dermatological applications. Future research directions include exploring additional therapeutic agents and optimizing formulations for broader clinical applications.
