Abstract :
In multicultural healthcare environments, medical secretaries play a pivotal role in bridging communication between patients and healthcare providers, ensuring smooth administrative processes and positive patient experiences. This comprehensive review examines the essential communication skills required for medical secretaries to navigate the challenges posed by linguistic and cultural diversity. Key areas explored include active listening, cultural competence, verbal and non-verbal communication techniques, empathy, and conflict resolution. The review highlights the impact of these skills on patient satisfaction, trust, and healthcare outcomes. It also discusses challenges such as language barriers, cultural misunderstandings, and organizational constraints, as well as strategies for overcoming them, including the use of interpreters, technology, and professional training programs. Furthermore, the review emphasizes the importance of continuous learning and policy support in fostering effective communication practices. With the increasing globalization of healthcare, medical secretaries must adapt to evolving patient needs to enhance institutional performance and minimize errors. The findings of this review suggest that equipping medical secretaries with the right communication tools and resources can significantly improve patient interactions and contribute to better healthcare delivery.
