Abstract :
This study investigates the formulation and characterization of Miglitol microspheres using various polymers, including sodium alginate with carbopol 934, carbopol 971, and HPMC K4M. UV spectroscopic analysis confirmed Miglitol’s λmax at 269 nm, with a high correlation coefficient (0.998) for its calibration curve. FTIR spectroscopy indicated no significant chemical interactions between Miglitol and the polymers. Microsphere yield, drug entrapment efficiency, particle size, swelling ratio, mucoadhesion, and drug release were systematically evaluated. Results showed that higher polymer concentrations generally enhanced yield, drug entrapment efficiency, and swelling ratios. Dissolution studies demonstrated sustained release of Miglitol, with the Korsmeyer-Peppas model best describing the release kinetics. This comprehensive characterization highlights the potential of these polymer combinations for controlled drug delivery systems.
