Abstract :
Nutraceuticals are biologically active compounds obtained from foods which provide health benefits beyond basic nutrition, plays vital role in the prophylaxis and management of various diseases. The enormous death rates around the world from Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs)is a consequence of a poor diet lacking in nutrients and is linked to lifestyle and environmental conditions that together trigger predisposing factors. In recent years there is a rising interest in nutraceuticals which offer health benefits and are substitute to modern medicine. Nutraceuticals have conventional considerable attention due to their exploratory safety, potential nutritive and therapeutic effect. This article’s main aim is to provide basic knowledge regarding nutritional supplements and the various ways they can be used to prevent and cure various diseases. The major diseases for the prevention of which, nutraceuticals have been associated are heart disease, cancer, hypertension and diabetes The other diseases, related with role of nutraceuticals are osteoporosis, arthritis and neural tube defects.
