Abstract :
Thespesia populnea tree or Indian tulip tree is used in Indian system of medicine since olden days to treat skin infections like allergy, psoriasis, inflammation etc. various tree parts such as bark, leaf, flower, fruit, seeds are used. The aim of this study is to formulate an topical gel using Thespesia populnea seed extract. The active pharmaceutical ingredient from Thespesia populnea seed were extracted through Soxhlet extraction method. The gel base were prepared by using Carbopol as a gelling agent and water as a vehicle. The topical gel was prepared by addition of extract to the gel base and other excipients such as methyl paraben(preservative), sodium hydroxide (pH adjuster) and lavender oil (flavouring agent). The gel was evaluated for its general appearance, homogenicity, pH, viscosity, spreadability and stability. The phytochemicals present in the Thespesia populnea seed extract was evaluated by chemical test.
Key words: Gel, Thespesia populnea, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antimicrobial, phytochemicals, evaluation.
