TO ASSESS THE EFFICACY AND SAFETY OF MONTELUKAST-LEVOCETIRIZINE COMPARED TO MONTELUKAST-FEXOFENADINE FIXED DOSE COMBINATION IN ALLERGIC RHINITIS PATIENTS

Abstract :

Background: Allergic rhinitis is a prevalent condition that significantly impacts the quality of life. This study aims to compare the safety and effectiveness of Montelukast-Levocetirizine and Montelukast-Fexofenadine tablets in patients diagnosed with allergic rhinitis.
Methods: A total of 100 individuals were recruited between July 2023 and December 2023 and randomly assigned to two groups (n=50 each). One group received Montelukast-Levocetirizine, while the other was treated with Montelukast-Fexofenadine. Patients aged 18 to 65, of both genders, with moderate to severe allergic rhinitis, were included. Demographic characteristics, clinical assessments (absolute eosinophil count and total leukocyte count), and symptom evaluation using the Total Nasal Symptom Score (TNSS) were analyzed. TNSS was recorded at baseline and after four weeks of treatment to measure efficacy.
Results: The study population consisted of 52% male and 48% female patients. Clinical assessments showed variations in absolute eosinophil count and total leukocyte count, which were considered in evaluating treatment response. TNSS analysis revealed a significant improvement in both groups, with scaling used to assess treatment efficacy.
Conclusion: Both Montelukast-Levocetirizine and Montelukast-Fexofenadine showed effectiveness in reducing allergic rhinitis symptoms. However, further comparative studies with larger sample sizes are recommended to establish the superior treatment option.
