Abstract :
Biodynamic agriculture represents a comprehensive and sustainable farming methodology that combines organic farming techniques with spiritual and ethical considerations. Originating from the ideas of Rudolf Steiner in the early 20th century, this approach underscores the interconnectedness of soil vitality, crop variety, and the overall ecosystem of the farm. This review paper delves into the core principles of biodynamic agriculture, which include the application of organic materials, crop rotation, and composting, as well as distinctive practices like lunar planting and the creation of fermented herbal preparations.
The paper evaluates the empirical data that supports biodynamic practices, emphasizing their effects on soil health, biodiversity, and crop productivity in comparison to conventional and organic farming methods. Furthermore, it addresses the socio-economic dimensions of biodynamic agriculture, particularly its contribution to local food systems and community resilience. The results indicate that while biodynamic agriculture presents significant advantages for sustainable farming, additional research is essential to confirm its long-term effectiveness and to gain a deeper understanding of its ecological and economic impacts.
Additionally, the socio-economic aspects of biodynamic agriculture are examined, highlighting its impact on local food systems, community enhancement, and market prospects for smallholder farmers. The significance of certification and labeling in advancing biodynamic products is addressed, as well as the challenges and opportunities associated with expanding these practices on a global scale.
