Abstract :
The present study focuses on the pharmacognostical evaluation of Plectranthus amboinicus(commonly known as Indian borage) and the formulation of a herbal mosquito incense utilizing its bioactive properties. Plectranthus amboinicus is a well-known medicinal herb valued for its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and insect-repellent properties. A detailed pharmacognostical analysis, including macroscopic, microscopic, physicochemical, and phytochemical evaluations, was conducted to establish its botanical identity and quality standards. The bioactive compounds, particularly essential oils such as thymol and carvacrol, were identified and quantified using standard analytical techniques. These compounds were leveraged to formulate a mosquito-repellent incense, combining Plectranthus amboinicus with other synergistic herbal components. The results indicate that Plectranthus amboinicus serves as an effective, sustainable, and natural alternative for mosquito control, offering potential benefits in reducing vector-borne diseases while minimizing the environmental and health hazards associated with chemical repellents. This study establishes a scientific foundation for the herb’s usage in traditional medicine and its application in innovative mosquito-repellent products.
