Abstract :

Dexamethasone is a potent synthetic glucocorticoid with anti-inflammatory, immunosuppressant, and anti-allergic properties. It is widely used in the treatment of conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, allergic reactions, and certain cancers. Due to its bitter taste and potential for gastric irritation, dexamethasone is often administered in coated tablet forms to improve patient compliance and ensure effective delivery. Among various coating methods, sugar coating is one of the old stand most accepted methods for masking taste and enhancing the appearance of oral dosage forms. Sugar coating provides a protective barrier against moisture, light, and oxidation, which is particularly important for relatively unstable drugs like dexamethasone. This literature survey presents a comprehensive review of research and development efforts related to the formulation and evaluation of dexamethasone sugar-coated tablets.
