Abstract :

Abstract:
Cognitive deficits are commonly associated with neurodegenerative disorders and are often linked to oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, and cholinergic dysfunction. This study aimed to evaluate the central nervous system (CNS)-protective potential of the methanolic extract of Nasturtium sativum seeds in an experimental rat model of cognitive impairment. Cognitive dysfunction was experimentally induced, followed by oral administration of the plant extract in different doses. A standard neuroprotective agent was used as a reference control. Behavioural observations were made to assess learning and memory, and brain tissue was analysed for biochemical markers related to oxidative stress and cholinergic activity. Treatment with the extract showed improvement in cognitive functions and neurochemical parameters, indicating potential CNS-protective effects. The findings suggest that Nasturtium sativum may serve as a promising natural therapeutic agent for managing cognitive disorders due to its neuroprotective and antioxidant properties.
