FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF HERBAL FACEWASH CONTAINING COFFEE POWDER

Abstract :
The present study focuses on the formulation and comprehensive evaluation of a herbal facewash containing coffee powder (Coffea arabica) in combination with other potent botanical ingredients such as neem extract (Azadirachta indica), turmeric powder (Curcuma longa), and aloe vera gel (Aloe barbadensis Miller). The aim was to develop a natural, safe, and effective facial cleansing gel that aligns with the growing consumer preference for herbal and chemical-free cosmetic products. The formulation was prepared using Carbopol 940 as a gelling agent, with glycerin as a humectant, and essential oils for fragrance and mild antimicrobial activity. Key physicochemical properties such as pH, viscosity, spreadability, foamability, and washability were evaluated along with safety parameters including skin irritation and microbial load. The final product exhibited a smooth gel consistency, ideal pH (6.1), good spreadability (6.8 cm), and moderate yet stable foam formation. Stability studies conducted over 30 days showed no significant changes in product characteristics. Importantly, the facewash was well-tolerated during skin irritation testing and free from harmful microbial contamination. The synergistic effects of the herbal ingredients provided exfoliation, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and moisturizing benefits, making the formulation suitable for daily use. This herbal facewash represents a promising alternative to conventional synthetic products, offering efficacy, safety, and consumer appeal with an eco-friendly approach.
