Abstract :
Clitoria ternatea, commonly known as butterfly pea or blue pea, is a tropical perennial herb from the Fabaceae family, native to Southeast Asia and India known for its striking blue flowers, the plant has a rich history in Ayurveda and is gaining popularity in the cosmetic industry for its multifunctional benefits. Its extracts are celebrated for their anti-aging and soothing properties, improving skin hydration and enhancing complexion. In hair care, Clitoria ternatea provides a natural, chemical-free alternative to synthetic dyes, while also promoting hair growth. Its antimicrobial qualities make it a valuable ingredient in oral care products like mouthwashes and toothpaste, helping reduce plaque, combat bad breath, and support gum health. This versatile plant is now featured in a range of commercial products, including face washes, body lotions, shampoos, and natural hair dyes. Its traditional applications continue to thrive, with homemade remedies like flower-infused oils and teas offering various health benefits. Clitoria ternatea’s growing role in cosmetics underscores its sustainability and effectiveness, aligning with the rising demand for eco-friendly and multifunctional ingredients in beauty and personal care products. This review highlights its transformative impact on the natural cosmetics industry.
