PHYTOCHEMICAL SCREENING AND ESTIMATION OF SPF NUMBER ON HERBAL EXTRACTS BY USING UV SPECTROSCOPY

Abstract :

This study investigates the phytochemical composition, yield, and UV absorbance properties of ethanolic extracts from Actinidia deliciosa, Daucus carota, Vitis vinifera, Beta vulgaris, Carica papaya, and Solanum lycopersicum. The extracts showed varying yields, with Actinidia deliciosa having the highest. Phytochemical screening revealed alkaloids, carbohydrates, glycosides, tannins, and phytosterols in all extracts, with flavonoids and saponins present in Beta vulgaris, Carica papaya, and Solanum lycopersicum. UV absorbance analysis indicated Actinidia deliciosa and Daucus carota had the highest UV protection potential. The study suggests these plants could be promising candidates for natural sunscreen formulations.
