FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF HERBAL LIP BALM

Abstract :
Herbal lip balm is a natural cosmetic preparation developed to protect, moisturize, and heal the lips while minimizing the use of synthetic chemicals. The present study aimed to formulate F1 to F3 and evaluate herbal lip balm using natural ingredients such as mango butter, beeswax, castor oil, and rose oil with emollient, antioxidant, antimicrobial, and soothing properties. The formulation typically included beeswax as the base, natural oils and butters such as castor oil, coconut oil, and shea butter as emollients, along with herbal extracts to enhance therapeutic activity.
The prepared lip balm was evaluated for various physicochemical parameters, including colour, odour, appearance, texture, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, melting point, stability, and skin irritation. The optimized formulation showed good consistency, smooth texture, uniform appearance, acceptable pH, excellent spreadability, and adequate stability under different storage conditions. No signs of irritation or adverse effects were observed during the evaluation, indicating that the formulation is safe for topical application.
The findings suggest that the developed herbal lip balm effectively moisturizes and protects the lips while offering the benefits of natural ingredients.
